Parmi eux figurent 263 aires dans lesquelles différentes SDI se chevauchent, entièrement ou partiellement, ce qui double ou triple, voire quadruple les désignations internationales. Dans le cadre de cette publication, ces sites sont dénommés sites à désignations internationales multiples (SDIM).
